Mystic Valley & Inside 128 · MA

Stoneham, MA.

Spot Pond, Stone Zoo, and a tidy inside-128 town with good elementary schools that has stayed quietly in demand for two decades.

The town

What we know about it

Stoneham is the inside-128 town that doesn't compete with Winchester or Reading for press but quietly attracts steady demand. Spot Pond, the Middlesex Fells reservation, and the Stone Zoo give the town more open space per capita than any of its immediate neighbors. The downtown along Main Street has been gradually reinvesting.

Our active-adult work in Stoneham is most often in the condo stock — the over-55 developments off Forest Street and Pond Street that have been adding inventory for a decade. The single-family market is dominated by 1950s and 1960s capes and ranches on tree-lined streets; turnover has historically been low.

For buyers entering the inside-128 ring, Stoneham represents one of the best value alternatives to Reading or Wakefield. School ratings are solid; the commuter access (93 and the 134 bus to Oak Grove) is unfussy. The town doesn't market itself, which is part of why pricing has stayed approachable.
